Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC), what is it and how to form it?

To generate an aggregated import code (AIC), you will first need to generate an SSCC code (serial shipping container code). Generation of SSCC code is possible in the open sources of the Internet, it is not prohibited by the marking rules.

What does serial shipping container code look like (SSCC)?

The serial shipping container code looks like this:

The cose must include:

  1. The code starts with the application identifier. The first "00" must always be present in the code.
  2. Extension Digit. In this case, the extension digit "1" may mean that it is an SSCC pallet.
  3. Company Prefix. The GS1 company prefix should be replaced with the TIN of the importer.
  4. Serial reference number. This is the serial number of the batch (generated by the participant of the goods turnover).
  5. Check Digit. The check digit can be calculated using the SSCC calculator (also available on the public Internet, e.g. Check Digit Calculator - Services | DSR (gs1.org)) based on the first 17 digits (without the "00" identifier).

The resulting code is: 00 1 XXXXXXXXX YYYYYYY D - where XXXXXXXXX is the enterprise TIN, YYYYYY is the number of the consignment (must not be repeated), D is the control number.

At the discretion of the importer it is possible to generate SSCC label (also available on the open sources of the Internet), print it and put it on the batch of goods, but this is not a mandatory step.
